American Bar Association - Approval Process

​

The Approval Commission of the Standing Committee on Paralegals oversees the approval process on behalf of the Standing Committee and operates under the direction and supervision of the Standing Committee. It has thirteen members who are appointed by the ABA president-elect. Members include six ABA lawyer members, one of whom is appointed as chair; three representatives from the American Association for Paralegal Education (representing four-year programs, two-year programs and certificate programs); one general public member; and one representative each from the International Practice Management Association, the National Association of Legal Assistants, and the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. The Approval Commission members are all volunteers. They serve on at least four site teams a year, usually as chair, and attend the two Approval Commission meetings each year.

Leadership Training Coordinator (2010-13)

  • Assemble and review articles, periodicals and books that discuss various methods on developing leadership skills. Submit relevant materials for inclusion in "Inside NFPA".

  • Develop leadership training materials for use by local associations, including "tips" and Association Management Series publications.

  • Present leadership training seminars/workshop at NFPA Meetings.

  • Respond to inquiries from local associations regarding the development of new leaders.

  • Assist/work with the Association Management Coordinator on the development of publications, seminars and surveys for use by local associations.

  • Plan and coordinate a national leadership conference each year.

Paralegal Exam Advisory Commission - Civil Trial (2010-16)

The TBLS Civil Trial Paralegal Commission advises and assists the TBLS in carrying out its objectives and in the conduct and development of the program for recognition and regulation of paralegal certification, including application review and approval, exam review and updates, and grading of annual exam submissions. The PC members shall be appointed by the TBLS and serve for up to two 3-year terms.
